Together we can Awaken Happiness! – Celebrating International Day of Happiness 2024

The smiles were as bright as the sunshine, and laughter abundant, as Ross | ReThink and its non-profit arm, Band of Support, hosted their fifth annual celebration of the International Day of Happiness at its head office on Alcazar Street, Port of Spain yesterday on March 20th.

Celebrated globally, International Day of Happiness was started by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2012, Linked to the release of it’s annual ‘World Happiness Report’, the day acts as a catalyst to bring awareness to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the UN’s stated need for, “a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples.”

Embracing this vision in its own unique way, the Ross | ReThink celebrations were hosted under the banner of ‘Awaken Happiness’. The event was centred around the concept of encouraging mental freedom by intentionally pursuing moments and habits which inspire happiness, and forms part of a broader range of activities that will unfold across the year including a 21-day Happy Habit Challenge.

Partnering with several organisations and individuals, Ross | ReThink  welcomed hundreds of persons who visited to ‘free themselves’ on their work breaks and take part in fun activities including Jenga, tic-tac-toe, mini-golf and cornhole, as well as to sample the delicious food and snacks on offer.

Stephanie Roque and Esperanza Maharaj took time out of their busy schedules to participate in a few games and enjoy the free hot doubles and cookies on offer. “It is important to be happy and to share happiness because life is too short to be sad. I think everyone who showed up today had a great time, and kudos to Ross|ReThink for reminding us about what’s truly important,” Roque explained.

According to Chester Parris, Agency Manager and Band of Support Resource Lead, “The demands of everyday life may sometimes challenge to overwhelm us, and  it’s easy to forget the simple, yet profound aspects of life that make every moment worth being grateful and happy for.  Today we wanted to encourage that mindset of change where everyone who comes will be reminded of the need to be aware of the deeper potential Joy that resides in each of us and each moment, to intentionally make ourselves and others happy. It was a total team effort that made today a success, as demonstrated by the turnout and sentiments expressed from visitors. Thankfully, over the years, we have been seeing an increase in the participation of other organisations and individuals becoming aware of the significance of these values, by joining in and celebrating International Day of Happiness, adding to the ripple effect that will continue to spread across our nation and ignite some much-needed hope to others”.

Nothing would have been possible without the partnership and support of like-minded organisations and individuals, including KFC, Subway, Star Global Production Studios, MC Stephan McConnie, 3ABNTT, Darius Designs, Label House, Blue Waters, Xtra Foods Supermarket, Pepper Spot Doubles, Guiltless Yogurt, National Flour Mills, GamesToGoTT, Golden Touch Concept, Selected Faces TT, Johnny Q, Fineline Distributors, Arnim’s Framing Solutions Co. Ltd., and other supporters who chose to remain anonymous.

Apart from enjoying the games and giveaways, persons also took time to share kind thoughts on the ‘Board of Happiness’ displayed at Ross | ReThink in tribute to the significance of the happiness awakened and shared together by all at the event.

After leaving her own message of happy appreciation, Michelle Mendoza had this to say, “This was a lovely gesture, and we need more of this in our nation. It really raised my spirits, and the happiness that was awakened and shared here was reflected in the smiles of everyone. This event reminds us that the simplest of things can bring happiness and make the world of difference.”
